FOREIGN POLICY OF BILL CLINTON'S ADMINISTRATION

Quite a few different military events went down during the time Clinton was in the White House. He was able to care for the country, and he also had a hand in quite a few conflicts. As the Commander in Chief, this was his job and thanks to his schooling on things of this nature he was able to work through most of the problems with as much ease as was possible at the time.

The Battle of Mogadishu happened in Somalia during 1993 when Clinton was in office. What started this battle was the shooting down of two U.S. helicopters by rocket-propelled grenades. The grenades hit the tail rotors of the helicopters. This subsequently trapped some soldiers behind enemy lines. There was a battle that occurred and 18 soldiers from America were killed and there were 73 soldiers that were injuries. One person was taken prisoner, and there were quite a few Somali casualties as well.

Osama Bin Laden was actually a problem starting with Clinton in office and ending in Bin Laden's death in 2011 when Clinton was no longer president. During Clinton's time in office, the Sudanese people said they could arrest and then extradite Bin Laden, but the authorities in the U.S. were said to have rejected the offer. Later on, there was found to be no evidence of this exchange, and it is still said that Clinton had plenty of chances to take down the terrorist but never was known to have accepted an offer.

In 1998 the Al-Qaeda organization bombed some of the U.S. embassies in the area of East Africa, killing a dozen people from America along with hundreds of people native to Africa. This is the reason Clinton ordered to strike targets in Sudan and Afghanistan with cruise missiles. They tried to hit a Sudanese pharmaceutical company because it was thought to have been helping out Bin Laden in making weapons out of chemical elements. They also struck a terrorist training area in Afghanistan. There was some criticism about this because people were told the pharmaceutical company was actually a chemical weapons plant. It turned out that it wasn't, and that ruffled some feathers because critics were out in full force looking for more to show that Clinton wasn't the best person for the job.

There was a genocide and ethnic cleansing going on towards Albanians in Kosovo. This is the reason Clinton had to authorize force in the way of using the U.S. Armed Forces to do a NATO bombing campaign. This took place in 1999 in Yugoslavia and was called Operation Allied Force. The General known as Wesley Clark, who was in charge of NATO, looked over the mission as it happened. After the bombings were over in June of 1999 there was a resolution put into place along with a force of peacekeepers to keep the region stable.

On October 31st, 1998 there was a bill signed into law to help with a policy of "regime change" in Iraq to stop Saddam Hussein from gaining more foothold.
